Deep Creeks. Eagles Nest and Oro del Ray mines

Some pics from up in the Deep Creeks.

Getting up here is a challenge. It's either a very long, strenuous hike or a very long, rough ATV ride. There are some amazing views once you reach the summit though.

Sweet! That's another one for "someday" - however I'd prefer to head out there with someone who's familiar with the area before I just wander out there by me lonesome! LOL
I'd say I'm fat and out of shape, but, "round" is a shape...

        That is an awesome place.

I hiked it from the lower cabin to the upper cabin one time, then ATV’ed up few years later, then up the switch backs to the top. When you get up on top, photos don’t do it justice. It feels like you are on top of the world. And the mines are good exploring.

If you haven’t been there GO.

If I remember right that area was on the list of Wilderness areas to be closed in the 90’s. It’s probably on the list again.

It's wilderness area, however the trails that go up the canyons are still open. There are three canyons total, but only one (Goshute) that leads up the the mines. The other two are well worth riding up into. The area is gorgeous.

If you have an ATV, I'd wait until the leaves start changing and spend the weekend there. The canyons are amazing and not too many people go there. Getting up to the Eagles Nest is one hell of a hike if you don't have a fourwheeler though. Just FYI

Fair enough. Once you get up that high, on the northwest side of the mountain where the Eagles Nest is, there is a forest of aspen trees that are pretty cool to walk around in. If you have time, I'd recommend hiking the other two canyons to the south. They are amazing. There is one spot that has an old cabin sitting down next to a river. Very nice area to camp. Unfortunately I don't remember which canyon it was in.

Very good photos. Question could a Ford F150 4X4 make it up the trail?

Negative. There are a few spots that my ATV barely fits through. The trail going up is in a canyon that over time has turned from a trail into a large rock field.
