Knightville and the Tinitic Mining Museum (10/19/08)

Spent a lovely Sunday morning checking out the museum as well as some mines in the Knightville area. The museum is well worth the visit alone, the local historic society has done a phenomenal job gathering local mining collectibles and our tour guide was great too, having working in some of the mines in his younger days.

Following our museum appointment we traveled to Knightville, just east of Eureka. We checked out the school house and then conintued to some of the major mines in the area, the Yankee, the Humbug, Cheif, etc. We found 5 horizontal openings, with many more likely to be found. We are planning on a repeat trip to spend some more time investigating the actual mines, I'll make sure to let you guys know when that is!

Interesting, I didn't know they will give a tour on Sunday. Now I definitely need to get up there and finally check that museum out, I have always been up there on Sunday and assumed no one would let me in. Got any pictures?

I know on Expedition Utah there was a thread with discussion about making a trip just like this one, is this why you went?

Sounds good, I need to spend some more time up in the Knightsville area, I always end up by the Centenial Eureka and Eureka Hill mines when I am out there.

Yes, there were 4 of us there from EU.com. One of the attendees (John) is a decedent of Jesse Knight and has really been investigating his life. The museum has a replica "office" of Jesse's that includes many of his actual belongings. I've been in a couple of the mines surrounding Eureka, but none in the Knightsville area, John however has so he gave us a quick tour of the mines in the area which is when we found a handful more openings. I'm trying to figure out a weekend to get down there next, possibly the weekend after this coming? I know I'm going to ride up to the Regulator Johnson and Mineral Fork mines that Sunday, but Saturday? I'll have to see how this weekend and next week go I guess.
