Since I might actually be able to come for once I have a daring quesiton to ask. What kind of helmets do you all use.

Also, since I am the proud owner of an ACH would that work for the ophir noob trip.

Yup that will work great! So long as you've got head protection

We use Camp armours, but you can use whatever you want.

As long as you got something that will cover your head and protect it against bumps and rocks you should be good.
Just remember to bring a good headlamp and extra lights.

So in other words I could wear this old pot helmet I've got sitting on my desk. So long as it stops me from spearing my head on a rock.

        Cool, thanks.

I got smacked by a large rock while on rope in 1995. Luckly I was wearing a helmet or it would have killed me instantly. At that time I was using a Petzl climbing helmet. The rock hit me so hard that it cracked my helmet. I called Petzl in France to let them know what happened. They had never seen one of their helmets crack before, so I sent it to them so they could run tests on it. Now I use the Joe Brown climbing helmet. It's comfortable, but a little on the heavy side. I also have another Petzl as a back-up. Black Diamond makes good helmets and the price is usually pretty good.

Thanks for the wise words Robert. Your story speaks volumes about the value of head protection. While I don't have any close calls or cracked helmets, I do have some deep scratches and smudges on the top of my own from all the times I have smacked my noggin.
