For those of you that are interested in prospecting, my group has just started working American Fork river as well as Mary Ellen Gulch. We've spent about four days worth of work now and have found gold in every pan! Its fine gold about the size of a pin head but its there. The AF river is flooding at the moment which makes it difficult to identify good locations, however, the flood waters bring more gold out of the hills. Today we worked a bar just above the beaver dams near the Rock Garden. It was fun but yielded little gold. We use sluice boxes and pans right now but are looking to upgrade to a shore dredge shortly. Its lots of fun and once you catch gold fever you just cant quit hunting! Anyone interested in joining us and learning more about prospecting is more than welcome to come along!
