While snow shoeing would be a great experience, i dont think we have the time to do all that we would like to on foot. With a sled we could visit all the caves and some mines as well. It would be about the same cost to go with a single sled or six pairs of snow shoes. If we have time, im up for some snow shoes and camping... just pack everything we need.

Agreed!
Agreed!
I think we should get a snowmachine on this trip so we can maximize on our underground time. However, I do think we should all invest in snowshoes for a future trip sometime soon.

While I'm not sure the origin of the name Iron park, I have guesses. The dyer mines and other mines are not too far from the park. Iron may have been mined from those parts giving the park its name. Iron park is a very large campground that would be the prime spot to camp were we to do such a thing.Comment

For the record it's snowMACHINE! You crazy Lower 48 folks...geez get it right.
Stuart and I are soon investing in a pair of space or snowshoes for the both of us.
Which we will have before the trip. Snowmaching in sounds fun but is it really going
to be practical? What is the terrain like? Can we pull people on sleds?
Hot tub! Yeah!

Well we are in the lower 48, so... Snowshoeing I think will be awesome! I plan on shoeing around. But without the snowmobile, we could never reach the cave. Did you not read the posts? he terrain is not too steep for most of it. The 3/4 mile hike out from the cave is steep enough to wear you out alone. 11 miles after that is far from practicle. Stu say to get my balls out of my purse, but really, it would be a crazy hike. We could do it, but why torture ourselves!!! We could definatly pull people around on sleds silly! Geez! How fun would that be! Just don't wrap me around a tree more than twice.Comment

Na some guy with a huge duelly diesel and chains showed up but refused to drive the road we took. He did have a handyman jack though, which we used to jack up the back and front ends and fill the tire holes with snow until it rested on top. Took a little while but worked out great.
Now we need to get a headcount on who is coming. So far I know we have Stu, Crystal, Chris, and I... anybody else?Comment

Hamburg.
Yep, I think we may be the only ones. We are the true Mojave!
If anyone else is interested speak up now, because we are leaving in a week.
This will be an adventure indeed.
