Abandoned mine found at California baseball field...

Too bad they probably won't explore / document it before they backfill / destroy it...

San Andreas, CA-- An interesting discovery was made recently at San Andreas Community Park.

The ground of the baseball diamond began to sink as children played on the field. Park caretakers were notified and it was soon discovered that a 7 foot by 6 foot hole covered by a large boulder had opened up. The hole is thought to be a mine shaft 200 feet deep with a false bottom 14 feet down.
I'd say I'm fat and out of shape, but, "round" is a shape...

yeah seriously...at 200 feet deep who knows how many shafts are leading off it and whether there are still some old untouched mining artifacts down there.

If I had the resources to go down there I would definitely consider offering our help to explore and document this mine before they cover it back up. I'm sure with our latest credentials it would be fairly easy to gain access for a day or two. Unfortunately, by now I'm sure the shaft has been covered.
