    Howdy you all do there!

I am an explorer/photographer originally from Texas, but now live in Saint George.

Back home, I did a lot of "urban spelunking" exploring numerous storm drains, sewers, and any other underground structures I could get into.

Since moving out here, there are very few such things, and wanting very much to continue exploring underneath the Earth, caves and mines seemed logical extension of my hobby, and I already posses a lot of equipment to boot!

Haven't explored anything too exciting yet, but I have explored a few adits around the Wah-Wah range north of enterprise.

At any rate, I look forward to contributing, and posting up pictures of my exploits soon!

      Welcome to the forum!

I'm just south of you down in Vegas. St. George is a great town. My roommate's folks live up there (she's heading up to visit as we speak). I get up there a couple of times a year. If you don't mind the drive, there are TONS of great mines just south of here. Well, actually all over Nevada.

Go_browns (from this group) and I are trying to get together to do some rope training and mine exploration. I don't know what your schedule or budget looks like, but you are welcome to join us. We are talking about some weekend camping & mine exploring trips. I like to do photography too so my trips always include dragging around a bunch of gear....

If you want to get a feel for some of the places in Nevada, I've been organizing my mine pictures into a new area on my website. You can check it out the mine photos at http://www.asolidfoundation.com/mines/mine_home.htm The photos are all up and now I'm going back and adding narrative to the photos.

      Welcome again!

      Joanne

Hi my name is matthew zabriskie just joined the forum yesterday, got into ghost towns from visiting them with my great grandfather who worked at the kennecot mill before he passed away in 1997, favorite areas so far are the tintic especially the grand central mine I
also like the hilltop mine in the sheeprock mountains region.

p.s. my dad and I would like to visit the hidden treasure mine in april but are unsure of who to get a hold of to gain access we just want to explore the first level if possible. any help is welcome thanks.

          Welcome to the forum Ghostwanderer!

I would love to hear some stories about the Grand Central mine of the Tintic, I have wanted to get into that mine for a long time. I actually met the owner this summer and he seems like he would give us access at some point in time if we go and talk to him.

Mojave Underground actually holds the keys and gives access to the Hidden Treasure mine. In late spring when the snow melts up there we will put a trip together and visit the mine.

i have only been to the shaft house where we found an owl nest tool room, the way up is littered with some ore and the shaft has been gated but there is an very narrow gap on one side, i am not experienced with vertical shafts only adit type ones.

Thank you for your service to our country, sanpet! My son is currently in the Marines - he started his time this past September. Right now he's at NAS Pensacola - he's part of the Air Wing of the Corps.

Welcome to the group! I haven't met up with any of the people here - and I haven't done any underground explorations. I'm one of those overweight, middle-aged guys who hobble around up on the surface of mining areas taking pics... LOL
I'd say I'm fat and out of shape, but, "round" is a shape...

Earlier, during the 1960s, I traipsed around the countryside of the Tintic Mining District digging for old bottles. My grandfather worked area mines during the teens and early '20s -- Silver King, Big Chief -- and my father was born in Eureka in 1924. I have not been back to this area since the 1990s. In the early '70s Eureka was a wild town. On Independence Day each year they would set off explosions on the mountainside -- 50 in all -- representing the 50 states. It was always early in the morning and usually disrupted my hangover from the night before. I am currently working to establish a Museum of the Privy Pit here in the mid-columbia region, but have encountered bureaucratic roadblocks basically criminalizing our efforts. Despite being a chartered non-profit historical preservation society, the Mid-Columbia Relic Recovery Foundation has faced new legislation making it criminal to excavate outhouse sites more than 50 years-old -- even on private property. It is my understanding that such legislation extends throughout the nation and will soon include removing coins and other artifacts located with a metal detector dating more than 50 years-old. I am a journalist and certified paralegal. As such I find such restrictive legislation disparaging, further eroding democracy and bolstering centralized government NOT in the interest of citizens. I am not optimistic with the future given recent trends. Suppose I could relocate to a nation more receptive to nation-building as this country seems to have lost its grit growing fat around the midsection.

Thank you. My youngest son Sgt. Troy G. Young USMC is at this time a instructor at NAS Pensacola. He teaches the theory of generation and air conditioning. He is on his 2ed enlistment and is trying to go for his 3rd. But the Navy doctors have missed up his foot. Also my 2ed youngest son in in the US Navy.

Greetings! I live in NE Oregon at a 1903 hydroelectric plant (which we are trying to federally license, and restore to operation). Our hydro plant provided electricity to several of the Au/Ag mines in the Cracker Creek Mining District, North of Sumpter, OR.
I started exploring caves when I was like 8-10, and loved the Calico park when I was 12. Started exploring mines in the Oregon Cascade Mts with a College buddy, and have been hooked since. I've explored mines all over Oregon (mostly Au, Ag & Hg), but the largest I've ever been in is the Champion, where we explored around 2,000'.
I did get to take the 4-hour underground working tour at the Original Sixteen-to-One mine in Alleghany, CA - HIGHLY recommended to anyone who can make it. This is an actual working Au/Ag mine, and is as close to how they mined 80 years ago as you're going to get.
I love Old West History because I can walk out in the hills (or in an adit underground!), and find traces of our history - I'm literally walking in the foot-steps of those I've read about.
My brother and I got into vertical work to enable us to explore some of the more challenging caves. I have a fear (or "Healthy Respect"!) of heights, so I am quite cautious about how I rig, and love back-up anchor points.
I found you folks via emike09fcmc's YouTube video "Ophir Hill Mine - Abandoned Mine Exploration - Mojave Underground" - one of the finest mine exploration videos produced, and such an incredible mine!
My mine exploration college buddy now lives in Colorado, so would like to see if we could meet up at one of your Ophir Hill exploration weekends.
Appreciate your respect for the history that created the mines we enjoy. A lot of blood, sweat & tears (and sometimes lives) were invested in these mines.
                            Thanks!
                            -Mark
