    Hi...

New here... I am in Eagle Mountain and looking for more exciting outdoor hobbies. Got a lot into canyoneering this year, and hoping to do some caving over the winter. I was shown this site and thought this mine stuff looks pretty cool too.

I'd love to go check any of these places out, but it seems its more complicated than just heading to a canyon, what with the gates and the permission and whatnot.

Let me know if anyone wants to bring a newb or two along to show us the ropes!

Welcome to Mojave Underground! Great to have you with us. We pass by Eagle Mountain all the time heading out to the Ophir District. Lots to see and do out there. We'll likely be heading out there sometime this week, perhaps next. Do you have any gear? Hardhat, lights, etc. Feel free to join us anytime we head out.

I have gear for canyoneering. Ropes and harnesses and whatnot. Sounds like the only applicable gear for this stuff is helmets and headlamps? We got those too.

I have been looking at this stuff online all day today- definitely want to check out the Ophir stuff whenever possible, although I dont have 4 wheel drive. My wife and I would LOVE to tag along. Very interested, so keep me posted.

Also- looking at the site, I am more excited because it seems like there at least a few people big in to photography- I am just getting started with that, but I am hooked. When you see all this cool stuff, you got to take some good pics to show the lame people that wont go anywhere with you...

Sounds like you got all the gear we require. A few of us are photographers. Stu, XXXSnow, iamsquat, myself, and a few others. We used to take time to take some real quality photos, but anymore, we just capture what we see and move on. With winter here, we'll likely be doing more high quality photography.

Many of the Ophir sites don't require 4x4, but mines like the hidden treasure, buffalo, chloride point, jacob city, etc, require 4x4 or high clearance. Stu and I are going to plan something for next week or the week after. We'll let everybody know whats going on.

In the mean time, we'd love to meet you at the party this saturday, if you can make it out there.

Awesome! I am in! Who wants to go to work on a tuesday afternoon anyway...

Only problem- can I cath a ride with someone or something? Also, if you are heading there at noon, what time will you be back?

Well I see what happens when Miah goes out of town! Have fun in the Miner's Delight, and be careful. If you guys could take a detour and do a quick survey of the (as John Skinner called it) Commanche Engine (the battery operated mule car) near the incline. I need to know how much of the track back there is covered with debris and how severe the coverage is - I know Leo wants that baby extracted but it is going to take a little more engineering than the incline cart. See if its possible to get it out by following the track it's curently on around where it loops back to the main haulage tunnel.

I will send along Skinner's contaact info - mabey you could invite him to the party or just set-up a meeting with him.

Mabey visit the HT and see where the Ophir connection shaft goes (stu and our new mountaineering member). Just a thought.

                Have fun!
