Lets talk a little about one of my favorite photoshop techniques. Through the use of blurs and layering properties, you can create an amazing "wedding" effect. This effect is powerul for portraits as well as many scenic shots. The steps are quite simple. As always, it is best if you open your image as RAW 16-bit 240+dpi.
1. Duplicate your background layer. Rename the new layer to Blur
2. Run an Unsharp Mask on the background layer until your edges and details are very sharp, but still hide signs of sharpening. Use a Radius of 1.5 to 2.5
3. Run a Gaussian blur on the Blur layer. Use a setting of 8-9.
4. Change the layer blending options to Overlay.
5. Change the Blur layer opacity to 50-60%
6. Desaturate the Blur layer by -25 to -50
7. Increase the highlight exposure values under Curves to wash out the highlights on the Blur layer. This creates more glow effect.
You will find that you have rich, vivid and dark blacks, and brilliant colors. If any of this is too strong, use Curves and Hue/Saturation to correct.
