Mojave Mine Team in Creede Colorado

Members of the Mojave Mine Team are currently in Creede Colorado to give a presentation at the Mining History Association's 20th anniversary conference. We will be presenting tomorrow on our adventures and explorations inside the Ophir Hill mine. Also presenting is the one and only Russ Hartill, he will be speaking on the DOGM'S AMRP program in Utah and its effects on mining history. His son Brannan Hartill will be speaking on the future of mining history. This is a fantastic opportunity to reach out to other mine enthusiasts and band together to preserve our rich mining heritage. I will keep you all updated and make a post tomorrow evening on how the presentation went. We will also upload our presentation and accompanying video to the server for everyone to download and enjoy.

We spend the day today driving to the INCREDIBLE mines above the small mining town of Creede. Colorado should be commended on its approach to preserving, presenting, and encouraging mining history. The mine structures are in fantastic condition, especially considering our altitude of around 10,000-11,000 feet. We had some fun getting the Rover out of the mud and we also took some great pictures, I think they say it all:

Solid work guys, solid. While I'm a self diagnosed desert rat yearning for Utah's vast stretches of sage brush and lizards... Colorado has some amazing terrain and mines, split residency may be in order

I agree Kurt, I too yearn for the deserted and lonely expanses of Utah's lesser traveled parts. Although Colorado has been exceptionally kind to us so far, the presentation went very well and we were invited to speak in Telluride this fall

We did a little more exploring earlier today and checked out some more mine sites in a different draw of the canyon above Creede before the presentation. At the presentation while Russ was speaking we snuck into the back of the room and got all geared in our harnesses and coveralls and came out when we were up with lights blazing and metal clanking, it was quite a site! Our presentation went very well and quite a few people stuck around afterward to chat and get our contact information. When we were done socializing at the conference we got out of our gear and visited a local hangout to rub shoulders with the friendly folks of Creede, some of which will be showing us around the mine sites tomorrow!
