    The Mission Mine

The Underground Explorers went back to the Joshua Tree area last weekend and finally tackled the Mission Mine. The mine has five levels and is 650 feet deep. All access is via vertical shafts and ladderways. We spend eight hours in the mine and explored the whole thing. It was quite a workout... over fifty stories down and then back up! The mine was worked over a pretty long period extending into the 80's. There are extensive surface workings and the whole operation was mechanized. The underground sections of the mine were pretty barren without many interesting features. It was still a very interesting exploration.

Pictures of the trip are on our web site.

That looks like a great mine, but 650 feet is one hell of a long way to climb on rope and ladders! I can see you are getting good use out of your TrustFire from the pictures
