Just notices this over the weekend. A couple of ore tipples and a small building. Anyone been? Worth driving back out to see? It was closed today otherwise I would have loved to have dropped in and left a NHMI poster too!

No. Where is it at in Grantsville? I just found this:
Oquirrh Mountain Mining Museum
The Oquirrh Mountain Mining Museum is an educational experience for all history buffs. The Oquirrh Mountain Mining Museum is sponsored by Barrick Gold Mines Inc. and Kennecott Utah Copper.
The exhibits feature old mines, current mines, and reclamation practices.
The museum is open to the public for guided tours by appointment only. There is an educational mining video to view during the tour.
Donations are accepted. -
The museum is actually located in the Deseret Peak complex, which is halfway between Tooele and Grantsville along Hwy 112. You can see the old rail engine sitting outside, as well as a couple ore bins that they've transported to the facility.
That being said, I've never been to the museum - probably because I haven't called to set up an appointment.I'd say I'm fat and out of shape, but, "round" is a shape...Comment

Finally had a chance to get to the museum for what turned out to be a self-guided tour. The gal at the front office of the park literally drove over to the museum and unlocked the place for us. What a neat resource. It was originally part of the visitors center at Mercur and was moved when major reclamation started up there. They had a neat collection including some models of the Mercur Mill and a movie about Mercur that I had never seen nor heard of. The train out front is from Kennecot Copper, apparently an ord train though there was no information on it other than 'KCC'Kurt Williams

Glad to know it's actually open and not closed due to it's nuissance attraction! I'd love to see the video of Mercur and the model of the mill. The locomotive out front is one of a bunch that Kennecott used in the pit and between the pit and the mill out above Magna to haul ore. If I remember right they were electric and ran off of high voltage lines above the tracks. I remember some 25 years ago hiking up the mountainside with my dad and uncle and coming across several of these engines rusting on some forsaken section of track. I would have thought them sold off for scrap - cool that one found it's way to a place where it could be appreciated.Miah

That is so cool. Nice find Kurt! Being out at the Deseret Peak Complex twice in the last 2 months, I really wish I would have known it was there. I will be making an appointment next time.
