    Eureka Hill Railroad

Here is a very interesting site about the Eureka Hill Railroad with some great photos. Especially the picture of what the Beck Mine looked like in it's hayday. It's amazing that the road the mine is on was/is actually the railroad right of way!! The author of the site also built a scale model of the Beck thats extremely detailed.

    Enjoy!

Never seen a picture of the buildings around the Beck #2 shaft before.

From the looks of things the train came right up to the building on the east side of the head stock which was also a huge ore bin and loaded right up...
I also thought it interesting that the Shay engines sat in the engine house till 1942 and were then scrapped at that location. Obviously for metal during WW-2.

          Interesting.

I've been up on alot of those trails with my fourwheeler, never even thought that they were old rail grades.

Only thing left up at the #2 now is the water tower and the headframe.

Mark after I got off the phone with you on Saturday I actually went down and drove through one of the train tunnels and got to see quite a bit of the old rail grade. I will try and get some of my pictures of the tunnel posted tonight. Here is a video I took with my iPhone while driving through the tunnel, the last thirty seconds give you a pretty good idea for how big the tunnel is, there are still soot stains on the roof.
