Yea, I don't know why Utah is so badly run... no excuse really. Nevada has these signs and similar ones all over the place!! This particuluar one was at Hamilton Ghost Town. Perhaps we need to make bumper stickers out of this sign and put em on all the BLm and DOGM employee's cars one dark night in their parking lots... and on the mine closure contractors equipment!!!

I like the billboard idea. We should start getting our name out there for the public to see. Granted we're a non profit and therefore don't have any real cash flow, we could probably get something arranged between all of us.
Texas has a rather nice setup too, they have big metal signs that give a brief history of what happened at that location, and the site is protected by state law. It carries HEAVY penalties to mess with the sign or the site, so you'd be hard pressed to find one that's been messed with. No reason why Utah isn't doing the same:

I really like the idea of some simple interpretive signage to be placed at mine sites. I can produce some reasonably nice signage and would love to be able to cast the types of signs many states post at historical sites. I had been thinking about producing something for Ophir / Hidden Treasure but probably need some approval from the owners. With the heavier traffic at the Hidden Treasure especially, some kind of brief history, photos, a map, etc. would go a long way to explain the site and hopefully deter vandals. OR i could just make a big target!Miah

I think we sould stick to inexpensive easy to replace metal signs since they wold cost little to replace when they do get shot up. Make em from titanium if you like then bulletts would bounce right back where they came from! I'd donate to this cause for sure...

Ricochet inducing interpretive signs? Sounds great! Lets start with a draft for a sign up at the Hidden Treasure. Mike will be up at Ophir Days tomorrow and he can speak with Leo and get permission to post it. We will also want to talk to John Skinner about photos, maps, dates, and information for the sign.-Stuart Burgess
