Picher, OK... 47 square miles of toxic mine dumps!

I thought some of you might find this article and accompaning video interesting. This is one of the most toxic sites in the US today. The town is now closed down and it's remaining residents are being bought out by the Government. In the video it said that something like 13 tons of toxic metals a day flow down Tar Creek into Grand Lake, the huge resivoir that is the source of drinking water for many surrounding counties. WOW!

Heard about this place, never been there myself. It might be worth my time to go check 1t out since i live closer than most of y'all. Looks like tickets from salt Lake city are around $180 round trip in september come on out and explore.

That's just wrong! When I read that story on CNN a few days ago my first thought was about checking out the mine! It's a sickness, right?

Yes, Mike I believe you are right. The more toxic and "dangerous" a mine site is the more I find myself wanting to go check it out. If it is a sickness, I'm not sure I want to find the cure.

You guys should check Picher out on streetview in google maps and also on google earth. The town itself is pretty neat and I bet the mines are bigger that we have ever been in. We need to find out some more on the EPA status of the site to determine what exactly is left and how accessible it all is.
