weekend of may 30th, any suggestions for places to go?

A few of us are planning a camping trip that weekend, but I'm not sure where is some cool places to visit, were looking with in 2 hours of drive time, one place I was thinking of was the dugway mountain range, but am not familiar with that area. Any suggestions? and if anyone is interested in going along, let me know.

Dugway is always a good choice.

You might check out Mary Ellen Gulch if you have a high clearance 4x4 vehicle. Eureka always offers a little adventure, but I'm not sure what damage has been done so far from the reclamation plans. Its a little further than 2 hours from Orem, but Death Canyon is a good adventure. Or venture into uncharted territory like north of the salt lake: 41°15'33.01"N 112°27'47.99"W. Use my Google Earth maps to see the mines around there.

I will be doing some more clean up at my place in Marysvale and have plenty or wood for burning and space for camping. I haven't had a chance to check out the miners park in bullion canyon yet, so if any one would like to come and explore with me they're welcome to stay at my place. Marysvale is on the East side of the Tushar mountain range about 26 miles south of Richfield, UT. It's reknown for its mining history of gold, uranium, flourspar and alunite.

American Fork Canyon and many of the other higher elevation mining areas will still be under snow. Hard to say when but many years you can get to the upper mines of Mary Ellen Gulch or Mineral Basin until mid June or later. I would look into Death Canyon, the Simpson Range and the Dugway Range.

There are four mines in the Dugway's that allow easy access. The biggest is the Four Metals, which is a big mine, but I've only been into it about 100' feet. Other members I'm sure have done alot more exploring inside it. The Lauris (Cannon) mine on the backside is a cool little adit worth checking out. There is also a small mine at the very end of the road if you drive past the Four Metals and keep going a couple miles. Lastly, the Rainbow mine is there, but I'm not sure how far in the adit goes. All other mines are vertical shafts or caved in. It's still a fun place to explore, and very remote.

                    lobster68w,

Where did you find the name of the Silver Reef Mine by Ophir? We have been looking for the name of this bloody mine for some time now.

Also don't bother going to the Queen of the Hills site, the only thing left is a little bit of scattered junk. You can see where the incline shaft use to be before it was reclaimed though.

Found it the other day on mindat.org

I think it might be a new addition, because I don't recall seeing it in the past there.

Was up there again the other day looking for an entrance to the lower level, but couldn't find anything.

We have also looked several times unsuccessfully for the lower entrance.

I wonder if anyone has dropped down that incline shaft to see what's below?

Yea.... I was wondering that too. I would have assumed yous guys had gone down there by now. Thats a really tall mine going in and its pretty cool when it opens up into that big room. Not much else in there but empty beer cans!
