Thank goodness for Wikipedia! thats how i found out about this place and it sounds like you people are my kinda people. From reading lots of the posts im guessing a lot of you live in the Salt lake valley area.. I lived there 9 months ago. But i was wondering if any of you have done any exploring in southern utah.. specifically Emery county. Thats where i live now "Green River" and havent had much luck finding mines.. Theres a couple caves out here that are nothing to write home about.. You guys know anything?

Holy coasterolla! ! !
Welcome to M.U. I personally haven't done much exploring in Emery County. Part of the purpose of our March trip is to check a bit of it out. There are mines around Green River, but I'm not aware of any that are within an immediate radius. I've compiled a listing of some known mines within a 50 mile radius of green river.

Were looking at checking a couple of these out when we come down at the end of March. The cresent and heyjoe mines are within 25 miles of Green River. If your looking at a high concentration of mines, head south east about 40 miles as the crow flies to the telluride mine area. Exit off I70 on exit 190 heading south. Should take you right into the area. Use Google Earth to look up those coords. Let us know what you find! If you really want to get into some mines, join us on our Green River Trip. We guarantee you'll get into some good ones. -
emery county has a lot of coal mines. unstable and dusty but lots of bats. if you dont mind hiking down into Eagle canyon there is a few old outlaw caves, but nothing of real depth. However, Emery does have some of the most interesting indian sites in the state.

Awesome so far guys Mike those sites sound like a good check out.. And traveling over 30 miles to get anywhere isnt a big deal for us green river type haha.. Were used to it Ill have to check out some eagle canyon for sure ... Bats are okay.. as long as there is fresh air... which im guessing a good chance there is not hah...Comment

I usually don't make an effort to travel to coal mines. Never found anything interesting in them, and like rover said, dirty and unstable. 30 miles is nothing to us either. We usually do at least 100 on each of our trips to Ophir or Eureka, where we spend most of our time. I've always thought there should be more mining activities down in the Green River area. Perhaps they just haven't been found yet.Comment
