    The dream mine

    Group,

I have been doing Yahoo! and Google searches online for abandoned mines and I came across this rather interesting and puzzling Yahoo! e-group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/The-Dream-Mine/ What the heck is this, anyhow? The group has over 1100 members!

Has anybody ever been there? How big of a mine is this? It almost sounds like it's part of somekind of religeous movement or something. If that's the case does that mean that they do not allow people to explore the mine?

    Just wondering,

Just another way to sucker money out of people, IMO. Those mountains aren't known for having any decent minerals in them.

I guess what I was really wondering about is the mine itself. Is it a pretty big mine? If so, does it have tracks? Or, is it just a short adit that goes in a little ways and come to a dead end.

        Does anybody know?

Hmmmmn. Somehow the "apocalypse" doesn't sound quite as terrifying to me if I can have a large and labrynthian abandoned mine at my disposal complete with tracks and workable ore cars to play with!

The "dream" or Relief mine is actually a couple of different tunnels. The main one is locked up and they keep a close eye on it. In the small canyon just South of the dream mine there are a few mines that are still open and can be explored carefully. I've rappelled 100 feet down into a couple of the Winzes, and did find some mineralization. More information from the mine owners: http://www.reliefmine.com/

I was just up there this last fall. Usually the people that live just below the mine don't mind if you go looking around inside the mill - but there's a small entrance into the mine (a hole in the rebar gate they've put up). You can't go back very far since the air becomes toxic and they've just recently taken out the ventilation and electricity. None the less... still pretty cool! Especially after all the leaves have changed for the season! (I have a bunch of pics to add to my facebook that have pics from inside the mill and the mine)

Id love to see the pics. Is the air setting off monitors? Just curious as to what they might have in there that would cause the air to go bad.. Weird, maybe its dead prophets?

Yes!!! It's so wonderful to know that more and more people seem to be getting interested in mines. Oh, how I wish this could've only happened 40 years ago!

                        Regards,

                            Mike,

I hate to just post this on the general forum but I don't know what else to do. For some reason I am no longer able start a new thread or send a private e-mail message. Would you know what's wrong?

                            Regards,

Thanks Mike, Joanne and Fred! Unfortunately we didn't take any air monitors in with us... just going off of some research we had done before we went in the mine, using a lighter to detect air flow and the warning sign on the gate in front of the entrance that says "Poisonous Gas..." I think it would be cool to take another trip up there and I'd be better prepared this time!
