      answer

      so i took a trip into the mine with the geologist today and he made sure to point out the "boney" band that was running through the coal seam. i remembered about this MU thread, so i figured i would ask more about it so i could try to help shed some light on this predicament. turns out "boney" bands or layers are actually coal with more mineral properties than that of normal coal. basically, the ash content is way higher than saleable coal. this could be somewhere around the 20% ash range as opposed to around 6% in normal coal. hope this helps!
