Yeah, I can agree with this statement! Just this last weekend I attempted to climb down this shaft without a rope. I quickly realized how hard it would be to climb back out and I turned around. Next time I will bring lots of rope!

That was an interesting mine. Somebody dropped one of the cables down into the shaft that Stu and I used to climb down. And like Stu said, once we hit the end of the cable, Stu decided it would be hard to get out, so we returned. I'd love to climb down in though with some good rope! This area deserves more attention.

It definitely does! It was too bad we ran out of time and daylight.
We spent about 90% of that trip driving just to find it. It's a shame we didn't
get to the better parts of the mine.
I'm ready to go back when you are!

                Hey,
I found this site off of the recent updates from goldrushexpeditions, I was down in delta 2 weeks ago and picked up a discovering millard county magazine and decided to head out towards the hot pots and fumorule butte, and joy. I was only in my mazda 3 so we couldnt make it up some of the side roads but just up the main road and out past the cowboy grave and to the camping area. We are planning to head out this weekend with some jeeps and camp there are do some exploring. I had seen the pics of the mines on the ghost town sites but never found that stuff, so I was a little dissapointed. But there where some foundations and a few shafts that looked like they would have been right in the back yards of the town. Im excited to go back out!

We are planning to go to Black Boy Mine, Ibex, and many of the unamed mines around.

Here are some pictures of what we did find as well I will be documenting what we find in pictures and Google maps.

Sometime when I get my disco up and running again, Ill have to meet up with the goldrush boys and see what the pros do when they go out! Im a little nervous about exploring the shafts, and to date have played it smart and stayed out until someone teaches me how to properly enter these!

Let me know if you want to meet up?!

Hey bergdh, welcome to the site.
We just finished our April meeting, and Joy was discussed as a high priority area to explore. We checked out the black boy mine not too long ago, but failed to find Joy, our primary destination. As far as shafts go, we haven't yet procured the srt gear to drop verticle shafts. This is another thing we are looking to do soon, as soon as we can find somebody who is well trained in dropping verticle. As far as horizontal shafts (adits) are concerned, we've got quite a bit of experience with. We'd love to meet up with you sometime and head on out to Joy.

Those are some interesting photos. Looks like there is a tunnel that needs explored. I think it was on page three of the link you gave. What do you think?

Yes that opening does look like it may be interesting. Sounds like you didn't brink a flashlight with you, thats a sin in my book!
We need to head back down there sometime soon, preferably this month, anybody want to go with us?

Yeah gas prices are getting pretty outrageous!
We drove 720 miles on our trip down to Kanab, had to fill up four times!
