    Utah Queen Nastalgia Video

    ***Warning***
Proper safety gear was not used in the filming of this video! Please wear helmets and proper clothing while exploring underground.

I dug up an old video of the original team exploring around up in Jacob City at the Utah Queen Mine back in early 2007. This was before MU existed.

In the video, you'll notice freshly sprayed green lines, courtesy of Jeremiah, who is now MU's engineer. This is the trip that eventually brought MU it's first member of the MMT.

    Enjoy!

    Mike,

Thanks for sharing the video with us. It's fun to see an early outing and how far you guys have progressed in your techniques and hardware. I noticed a lot of flashlights rather than the now standard headlamp. No cool MU jumpsuits.

I've looked at some of photos from my first trips and laughed at myself. Still we all have to start somewhere, especially those of us who didn't have anyone to mentor us. Like in the video, I started off with a couple of inexpensive flashlights and no helmet. My next step was my old bike helmet with a cheap headlamp tied on. Soon it was a climbing helmet, an upgraded headlamp, and a good flashlight. Climbing gear and rope weren't too far behind.

Of course hardware wasn't the only thing that was progressing. I've started to explore more challenging mines and added vertical exploration to the mix. It's really been a lot of fun as well as giving me a lot of pride in being able to go places that most people can't and see things that most people never will.

I'm sure that my story isn't much different than many of us here. My exploring buddy, Bill (go_brows), started with nothing but an interest in old mines, and has turned into a very competent explorer. It didn't take him long to bypass me in terms of skills. (I'm blaming it on me being old and him being young...LOL)

Anyway, I'll quit mindlessly rambling. Thanks again for the video!

Nice instructional video but whoever was doing the camera work couldnt hold the camera steady. Made me feel like i was seasick on a ship.

Oh it was by no means an instructional video. Simply uploaded to bring back old memories with some of the first mine trips that formed what is now MU. It is what it is.

Ah, the Utah Queen. I'm curious what's on the lower level. Those winzes look to be in good shape. Someday...

Wow, what a classic. I can't believe how much I have forgotten about these early years of exploring. Fun times!
