Arivaca was originally an indian village of the Pima tribe. Aroung 1856, mining operations began. The mines slowly died out, and ranching took over. Arivaca is still a small ranching town, and many old historic buildings and a cemetery remain.
History
The townsite was named after a spanish ranch by the name La Aribac, which was abandoned in 1751. Charles Poston and his Sonora Exploring and Mining Company bayed the ranch from Ortiz family in 1856 for 10,000 dollars. The legend teals that Teresa Celya's house in Arivaca were once hide place for two men why robed Vulture Mine and buried the gold here.
