Utah Launch Complex

The Utah Launch Complex, also known as the Green River Missile Complex, was built for testing of Athena and Pershing missiles. The complex was last used around 1974/1975, as has been in caretaker status ever since. While the site remains open, rumors have it that police now patrol the area from time to time.

Today what remains of the Utah Launch Complex consists of about ten significant buildings and structures scattered throughout the valley. You will also find some other old building foundations and features here and there. Overall, the entire complex is in a terrible state of disrepair and has been obviously been left to rot. Old signs are unreadable, windows are boarded up, and most buildings are visibly damaged in some way either because of vandalism or the elements. Most of the buildings on-site are empty with little if anything to see. However, there are some buildings which still have old electronics and other items of interest.

The most interesting part of the Utah Launch Complex is the communication or monitoring center. The buildings in this area were most likely used to house equipment that was used to to track and record missile tests. Around this site are three, long, runway type surfaces. The first one, on the west of the property, features a structure built on rails, so that presumably when the weather was bad the structure could be moved to cover and protect the communication dish on the opposite side of the track. Besides the three communication tracks you will also notice a series of above ground platforms designed to carry electronics and power cabling across the facility. These above ground structures are an unusual feature of this part of the complex. Also in this area is a partially underground bunker. Inside this bunker are remnants of electronics equipment including old DEC computers, lots of cabling and wiring and other various electronics. This bunker was probably some sort of primary control room for the complex.

Debate

The site has been a topic of great debate, called "[The New Area 51"[1] by Popular Mechanics. Green River Mayor Judy Ann Scott claims some "big military" helicopters landed there a little bit back. She has been known to be very secretive when the topic of the location ever comes up. Rumors of this kind are largely matters of speculation and are quite preposterous.
