This is actually the second straight weekend I have taken a day ride up in the Cedars. Thanks to a hot tip from a friend, I found some decent mountain biking in an otherwise ride-scarce range. The Cedars are right out back of my neighborhood here, so it was about time a good place to knock around on the old rig came to my knowledge.

One thing I am always on the lookout for cows when I drive up Skull Valley Hwy. These dudes were fenced off - but it you ever end up wandering around in Skull Valley, especially at night, look out for the cows! For Gods sakes man, look out for the cows!! These poor critters get whacked out here more than you'd ever imagine... And you should see the cars.

If you get an early enough start, take the fork to either side and loop back. Bring a good map (USGS - Tooele) and you shouldn't have a problem finding your way. There are many mines in the area as well as some active claims that are well posted.

Up on top of the ridge the views are incredible. That is not an understatement. I managed to ride to Hastings Pass the weekend before and this unnamed pass the week after. The snowcapped peaks across Skull Valley are the Stansburys. You can see the Deseret Peak Wilderness area in the first shot followed by a view looking south along the Cedars, and finally, a successive view of the Cedars, Stansburys, Oquirrhs, and the mighty Wasatch (which are very faint but visible). That's Salt Lake valley way out there! That should also give you an approximation of where I am Yeah, maybe I'm out in left BF-Utah but I guess I kind of like it that way for the time being.

Next chance I get I am starting earlier and bringing lots of water. Most likely one can ride this entire loop in about six or so hours if one sticks with it. That's just a guess though, and I am strictly going by the map. Oh and yes indeed, the downhills are sweet! Jimbo's Safety Tip: Just watch out for dirt bikers - as this area is no secret to them, and they tend to throttle up with little regard for what's around the corner. #@$%*#!!!
