I am a fairly experienced caver and mine explorer with about 200 hours underground. I live in NorCal and have done a lot of spelunking in the gold country and exploring of abandoned mines in Europe. A friend and I are planning are planning a trip to Death Vally over the holidays for about 4 days. We were very interested in getting to several mines to explore, but I don't know much about that area. I was wondering if you had any recommendations for mines that are fairly extensive? We have 4 wheel drive. Our main goal is to find ones that are large enough for a good day of exploring but not so far off the road that you spend the whole day getting there and back, that being said we would definitely be up for camping out if that is what it takes to get to the best mines.
I am also a fairly avid mineral collector with a focus on radioactive. I have heard that there are a few old Uranium mines in Death Valley and I would love to learn more about them if you have info to share.
